Dr. Franco published an article on Find A Psychologist about growing after trauma. While there is much important information about how trauma can affect us in the short- and long-term, there is less, although just as important, information about how to recover and grow after trauma. Dr. Franco writes,
Many people who report experiencing growth after traumatic experiences have worked in therapeutic settings, struggling to heal, find meaning, and learn new life skills. In many cases, the result includes wider perspectives, richer understandings, more resilience, and greater coping skills.
While some people are able to work through trauma on their own, many survivors of trauma need help and support to deal with it and learn from it in a healthy way.
